Chandigarh, 02 June (H.S.): A 24-year-old doctor was found dead
under mysterious circumstances at the Government Medical College and Hospital
(GMCH-32) in Chandigarh on Tuesday, triggering concern among hospital staff and
authorities.
The deceased, identified as Dr Yogesh, was a Junior Resident (JR) pursuing
postgraduate training in the Department of General Medicine. According to
hospital sources, he had entered a washroom within the hospital premises but
did not return for a long time. Concerned colleagues and staff repeatedly
knocked on the door, but received no response.
When the door was eventually broken open, Dr Yogesh was found unconscious
inside. He was immediately shifted for medical treatment, where doctors
declared him dead.
Following the incident, Sector-34 police and a forensic team reached the
hospital and conducted a detailed examination of the scene. The area was
videographed and evidence was collected for further investigation.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that the doctor may have administered an
injection to himself, though officials have not yet confirmed this. Police said
all possible angles are being examined and statements of family members will
also be recorded.
The exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem
examination and forensic reports are received. The investigation is currently
underway.
