Prayagraj, 02 June (HS): The City Congress Committee workers
have appealed to the Electricity Department to withdraw the order for recovery
of an additional 10 percent fuel surcharge in the electricity bills issued
during the current month. In a meeting held on Tuesday afternoon at the party
office in Chowk under the president ship of City President Fuzail Hashmi, they
opposed and expressed against the increase in electricity tariffs,
privatization, and smart meters.
In separate letters sent to the Governor, Chief Minister,
and Energy Minister, the party termed the Power Corporation’s order for 10
percent additional recovery as anti-consumers and demanded its immediate
withdrawal. It was stated that due to irregularities in smart meters, consumers
are receiving arbitrary and inflated electricity bills. The Regulatory
Commission has also termed such recovery as being against the rules.
It is learnt that a 10 percent fuel surcharge was also
charged from consumers in February this year. The Corporation should adjust
that amount accordingly in all consumers. Former spokesperson of UP Congress
