
Panchkula, 17 June (H.S.): The Anti-Narcotics Cell in
Panchkula has arrested a man after recovering 305 grams of heroin from his
possession. The estimated value of the seized heroin is said to be around Rs
1.5 crore. Police also recovered two mobile phones and Rs 10,000 in cash from
the accused.
According to police, Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge
Sub-Inspector Nirmal Singh had received information that a person named Ajay
was allegedly supplying heroin in the Panchkula and Zirakpur areas. The
information further stated that he was expected to deliver a narcotic substance
near the cremation ground in Sector 20, Panchkula.
Acting on the tip-off, police formed a raiding team and
started surveillance in civil dress near the spot. On the basis of the
informer’s identification, the police team apprehended a suspicious person.
During questioning, the accused identified himself as Ajay, 36, a resident of
Abohar in Punjab, currently living as a tenant at Aashiana Homes in
Peermuchhalla, Dhakoli.
During the search, police recovered a transparent polythene
packet from the back pocket of his jeans. The packet was found to contain
heroin. When weighed on an electronic scale, the total quantity came out to be
305 grams.
Police also recovered two mobile phones, one each of
Oppo and Vivo companies, along with Rs 10,000 in cash from the accused. The
heroin, cash and mobile phones were taken into possession and sealed by the
police.
Police officials said the recovered heroin falls under
the commercial quantity category as per the NDPS Act. On this basis, an FIR,
number 115, has been registered against the accused at Sector 20 police
station, Panchkula, under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act.
Police are now questioning the accused to find out from where he procured
the heroin and in which areas he was allegedly supplying it. Further
investigation in the case has been handed over to ASI Parvinder of the
Anti-Narcotics Cell.
