
Nalbari, 16 June (HS): A suspected child abduction attempt targeting a Class II student was thwarted in Assam’s Nalbari district on Tuesday, highlighting the alertness and courage of local residents who acted swiftly to protect the child.
According to police, the young girl was on her way to school with her father when two men allegedly attempted to abduct her. The accused reportedly threatened the father with a knife and tried to take away the child. However, the incident quickly drew the attention of nearby residents, who intervened immediately and prevented the abduction.
The two suspects were overpowered by locals and later handed over to the police. They have been identified as Shahidul Ali and Vivek Gupta. Both sustained injuries during the public intervention and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused had travelled from Guwahati to Nalbari. Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. The arrested individuals are being interrogated to determine the motive behind the alleged kidnapping attempt and whether others were involved.
The timely response of the community played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the child, reflecting the importance of public vigilance and collective responsibility in preventing crime.
