Chandigarh, 15 June (H.S.): A youth was killed while his

friend sustained serious injuries after a group of 10 to 12 armed assailants

attacked them with sharp-edged weapons in Chandigarh’s Maulijagran area late

Sunday night.

According to police, the incident took place when

25-year-old Tota, a resident of Vikas Nagar in Maulijagran, was going towards

the market with his friend Akash (22). During the incident, a group of armed

miscreants allegedly surrounded the two youths, assaulted them and later

attacked them with sharp weapons.

Maulijagran police rushed to the spot and shifted both

injured youths to hospitals. Doctors declared Tota dead at the hospital, while

Akash is undergoing treatment and is said to be in critical condition.

A video of the incident has also surfaced on social

media. In the footage, the attackers can be seen chasing the victim,

overpowering him and repeatedly attacking him with sharp-edged weapons even

after he fell to the ground.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers fled the scene before

police arrived. Locals gathered at the spot after hearing the victims’ cries

for help and informed the police control room. Tota was taken to Sector-32

Hospital, while Akash was admitted to the hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula.

Police said multiple injury marks caused by sharp

weapons were found on the deceased’s body. Preliminary investigation suggests

that injuries to his chest led to his death.

A forensic team was also called to the crime scene to

collect blood samples and other evidence. The entire area was videographed as

part of the investigation.

Police suspect old rivalry to be the motive behind the

attack. Investigators are gathering details regarding previous disputes

involving the deceased and the injured youth.

Maulijagran police station in-charge Jaskaran Singh said that a case has

been registered under charges of murder, attempt to murder and provisions of

the Arms Act. Police teams are conducting raids to identify and arrest the

accused with the help of CCTV footage.
