Imphal, 11 June (HS): Acting on intelligence inputs regarding a possible threat to remote hill villages, security forces launched a joint combing operation at Horei Kaphung Hills, located along the Lower Leishan Ridge, on Wednesday.

During the operation, security personnel spotted around a dozen armed individuals positioned on the hilltop. While several managed to escape, eight persons were apprehended and disarmed by the forces. After questioning, they were released with a strict warning against carrying weapons or entering the hills with arms, as such activities are prohibited.

The operation also led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores from unauthorised bunkers established on the hilltop.

Security forces stated that sustained operations would continue across vulnerable areas to prevent violence and ensure the safety and security of all affected communities and villages.----------
