Bhubaneswar, 11 June (H.S.) : An FIR has been registered at the Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar following the alleged disappearance of two inquiry commission reports from the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), official sources said.

The complaint was lodged by Home Department Joint Secretary Sarat Chandra Marandi, seeking a police investigation into the missing reports related to two high-profile incidents in the state.

According to the FIR, the missing documents include the report of the Justice A.S. Naidu Commission, which investigated the 2008 killing of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati in Kandhamal district and submitted its findings in 2016, and the Revenue Divisional Commissioner’s (RDC) inquiry report on the 2016 fire tragedy at SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar, submitted in 2018.

The Home Department stated that the two reports, along with several other important files, had been forwarded to the CMO for official purposes. Following the conclusion of the Assembly elections, the CMO reportedly returned a number of files to the Home Department on June 4, 2024. However, the two inquiry commission reports were allegedly not among the returned documents.

“The two reports are presently untraceable at the CMO. The circumstances surrounding their disappearance create a reasonable suspicion that they may have been intentionally removed, retained, concealed, destroyed, or otherwise unlawfully dealt with,” the FIR stated.

The Home Department has requested police to register a case and conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the disappearance of the reports. It has also sought identification of individuals responsible and appropriate legal action against them.

Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
