Prayagraj, 10 June (HS): A farmer awareness program under

the Khet Bachao Abhiyan was organized at Sanaikapura Village, Chaka

Block, Prayagraj, through the joint efforts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK),

Prayagraj and ICAR–Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR), Varanasi. The

program was attended by 71 farmers and focused on promoting natural farming and

sustainable soil health management. The program was graced by Dr. Praveen

Charan, Director Extension, SHUATS, Prayagraj; Dr. Ashutosh Rai and Dr.

Hironmoy Das from ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi; Dr. Mukesh P. Masih, In-charge, KVK

Prayagraj; Dr. Nimisha Natarajan; and mr. Subodh Yadav, Scientists, KVK

Prayagraj.

Experts highlighted the harmful effects of excessive use of

chemical fertilizers such as DAP and urea on soil fertility and encouraged

farmers to adopt sustainable alternatives. Farmers were trained in the

preparation and use of natural farming inputs including Vermicompost,

Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, and Ghanjeevamrit for improving soil health, reducing

cultivation costs, and enhancing crop productivity.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Ashutosh Rai and Dr.

Hironmoy Das emphasized the importance of conserving soil as a living ecosystem

through sustainable nutrient management. Dr. Mukesh P. Masih stressed the role

of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in connecting scientific innovations with farming

communities. Mr. Subodh Yadav highlighted the benefits of green manuring as a

simple and cost-effective practice for improving soil fertility, increasing

organic matter, and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.

Dr. Nimisha Natarajan highlighted the link between healthy

soil, nutritious food, and public health. She encouraged farmers to adopt

natural farming practices and locally prepared bio-inputs to improve soil

biodiversity, crop quality, and long-term sustainability.

The program also covered soil health management,

bio-fertilizer use, crop residue management, integrated nutrient management,

and water conservation. Farmers actively participated in an interactive session

and received scientific recommendations to address local agricultural

challenges.

In his message, Dr. Praveen Charan emphasized that

protecting soil is essential for food security, environmental sustainability,

and rural prosperity. Concluding the programme, Dr. Nimisha Natarajan remarked,

When we save the soil, we save the farm. When we save the farm, we save

the farmer. And when we save the farmer, we secure the future of the

nation.
