
Bhubaneswar, 07 May (H.S.) : The Forest Wing of Odisha Vigilance on Thursday unearthed and busted an illegal furniture manufacturing unit operating under Tangi Police Station limits in Cuttack district, seizing timber and furniture materials worth approximately ₹4.8 lakh.
Acting on credible intelligence, a joint forest raid was conducted at a unit located in Sofa village, where the illegal furniture workshop was found functioning without a valid licence.
During the raid, officials detected and seized illegal timber stock of 19.08 cubic feet stored inside the furniture unit, along with an additional hoarded stock of 115.814 cubic feet of valuable timber kept near Sofa village.
In total, 134.894 cubic feet of timber was seized during the operation, with an estimated market value of ₹4,81,669.
Officials confirmed that the unit was operating in violation of forest and trade regulations by processing and storing valuable timber without authorization.
Further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the illegal operation and to determine the source of the seized timber.
