Thiruvananthapuram ,31 May (H.S.):
Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) has announced an increase in the retail price of milk by ₹4 per litre, effective from June 1, citing rising production costs faced by dairy farmers across the state. The price of curd has also been revised upward by ₹10 per kilogram.
Milma said that while the revised prices come into force immediately, existing milk packets will continue to display the old rates for the time being as the process of printing new prices on packaging is still underway. The federation clarified that this transition period may continue for up to a month.
According to Milma, the price revision is aimed at providing greater support to dairy farmers who have been grappling with escalating input costs, including feed, labour, and transportation expenses. Of the ₹4 increase per litre, around ₹3.35 — representing 83.75 per cent of the total hike — will be passed on directly to milk producers.
The cooperative also indicated that prices of other dairy products may be revised proportionately in the coming days.
This is the first milk price increase announced by Milma since December 1, 2022, when prices were raised by ₹6 per litre.
Under the revised pricing structure, Milma Smart Double Toned Milk (500 ml, yellow packet) will cost ₹27 instead of ₹25. Milma Homogenised Toned Milk (525 ml, blue packet) will be priced at ₹30, up from ₹28.
Similarly, Milma Pride Homogenised Milk (500 ml, orange packet) will now cost ₹30, compared to the earlier ₹28. Milma Rich Standardised Homogenised Milk (500 ml, green packet) has seen a steeper increase, with the price rising from ₹29 to ₹32 per packet.
The price of Milma Classic Curd (525 grams) has also been revised from ₹35 to ₹40.
The latest revision is expected to provide relief to thousands of dairy farmers while increasing household expenditure on essential dairy products across Kerala.
