New Delhi, May 28 (H.S.): Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K. C. Venugopal on Thursday said that the party is above the individual and the people are above power, following the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Sharing a photograph of Siddaramaiah embracing Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar on social media platform X, K. C. Venugopal wrote that for the Congress party, the organisation is a family and the people are its ultimate purpose.

It is noteworthy that amid the ongoing power tussle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar in Karnataka politics, Siddaramaiah resigned from his post on Thursday. Earlier, both leaders had been summoned to Delhi by the party high command for a meeting on Tuesday. Following that meeting, Siddaramaiah decided to step down from the post.

Speaking to journalists after tendering his resignation, Siddaramaiah rejected the proposal of moving to the Rajya Sabha. Addressing a press conference, he said that he was making way for a new Chief Minister but had no interest in national politics. He added that he would remain active in Karnataka politics.

Siddaramaiah also dismissed speculation about internal differences within the Congress party, asserting that the Karnataka Congress would remain united like a family. He stated that during his tenure, he had made every effort to ensure equal treatment for all.
