New Delhi, May 26 (H.S.): The domestic stock market witnessed a recovery today after facing initial weakness during early trading hours. Trading had commenced on a negative note, but soon after the market opened, buyers intensified purchasing activity, enabling both the Sensex and Nifty indices to recover and move into positive territory within the first 15 minutes of trade. Thereafter, profit-booking triggered a bout of selling pressure, causing both indices to slip once again. However, buyers soon resumed fresh buying, leading to an improvement in the market’s overall position. After the first hour of trading, the Sensex was trading higher by 0.07 percent, while the Nifty had gained 0.13 percent.

Following the first hour of trading, among the heavyweight stocks in the market, shares of TMPV, Coal India, Eternal, Adani Enterprises, and Hindalco Industries were trading with gains ranging from 2.63 percent to 0.73 percent. On the other hand, shares of Kotak Mahindra, Sun Pharmaceuticals, SBI Life Insurance, Max Healthcare, and Apollo Hospitals were trading lower by 0.93 percent to 0.77 percent.

So far during the trading session, active trading was witnessed in 2,996 shares in the stock market. Out of these, 2,054 shares were trading in the green with gains, while 942 shares were trading in the red with losses. Similarly, among the 30 shares included in the Sensex, 16 stocks were trading in positive territory with buying support, while 14 stocks remained under selling pressure in the red zone. In the Nifty index, 28 out of 50 shares were trading higher, whereas 22 shares were trading lower.

The BSE Sensex opened today at 76,224.14 points, registering a decline of 264.82 points. As soon as trading commenced, buyers stepped up purchases, pushing the index into the green zone within the first 15 minutes of trade to touch 76,616.02 points. Thereafter, mild profit-booking caused a slight dip in the index. However, around 10 a.m., buyers once again intensified buying activity, resulting in renewed upward momentum. Amid continuous buying and selling in the market, after the first hour of trading, at 10:15 a.m., the Sensex was trading at 76,544.65 points, up by 55.69 points.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty began today’s session with a decline of 27.60 points at 24,004.10 points. Buying activity immediately after the opening helped the index recover within the first 15 minutes and climb to 24,077.20 points. Thereafter, selling pressure caused a temporary decline in the index. However, after 10 a.m., buyers once again stepped up purchases, resulting in fresh gains. Amid continuous buying and selling activity in the market, after the first hour of trade, at 10:15 a.m., the Nifty was trading at 24,063.65 points, up by 31.95 points.

Earlier, during the previous trading session on Monday, the Sensex had closed at 76,488.96 points, gaining 1,073.61 points or 1.42 percent. Likewise, the Nifty ended Monday’s session at 24,031.70 points, registering a rise of 312.40 points or 1.32 percent.
