Guwahati, 25 May (HS): Police have arrested Sanjit Boro in connection with the assault case involving retired Assam Police officer Girin Chandra Deka at Ghoramara in Guwahati. Guwahati police DCP said on Monday that the incident had reportedly taken place on the night of May 15 following a dispute over vehicle parking.

According to police sources, the family of Girin Chandra Deka lodged an FIR at Basistha Police Station on May 19 after the altercation. Deka, who was above 60 years of age, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday late night after undergoing treatment.

The incident occurred on the Ghoramara road around 10 pm, where an argument reportedly broke out between Sanjit Boro and Deka over parking issues. The verbal confrontation later escalated into a physical fight between the two.

Eyewitnesses informed Deka’s family after he remained lying at the spot for a considerable period. Family members immediately rushed him for medical treatment following the incident.

Both the victim and the accused are residents of Shivnagar locality in Ghoramara. Girin Chandra Deka had earlier served as Officer-in-Charge of Khetri Police Station and retired about a year ago as a DSP of the CID wing of Assam Police.---------
