(HS): Brahmapuri in Chandrapur district on Monday registered 47.6 degree

Celsius temperature making the strong beginning of the ‘Navtapa’ (hottest nine

days of summer).

The IMD had

issued warning of heat wave in the region. The summer this year appears to be

harsher as the temperature has clready crossed 47 degrees in Brahmapuri and 46

degrees in many other districts of the region.

Nagpur was next

in the line registering temperature at 46.5 degrees.

The temperatures

I other districts of the region were Akola – 45.4, Amravati – 45.0, Bhandara –

46.4, Buldana – 41.7, Chandrapur – 46,0, Gadchiroli – 46.4, Gondia – 46.1,

Wardha – 46.0, and Yavatmal – 44.4.

Although separate

record of deaths due to extreme heat is not available, the number of dead

bodies reaching crematoriums have almost doubled during the last few days.

The streets are

deserted in the noon between 12 and 4.30 pm. Number of fire cases have also

increased considerably. Blast in electric vehicles, and gas cylinders are

common causes of fire.
