New Delhi, 23 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today cast himself at the centre of India’s job‑creation story, virtually distributing appointment letters to over 51,000 newly recruited youth during the 19th Rozgar Mela.
Joining the event,PM Modi addressed the young recruits at 47 venues across the country, delivering a message that blended bureaucratic efficiency with political symbolism aimed squarely at India’s election‑ready, employment‑anxious electorate.
Through video conferencing at 11:00 a.m., PM Modi formally handed out more than 51,000 appointment letters to candidates selected for roles in several central government ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services, and Department of Higher Education, among others.
The selected candidates, drawn from all parts of the country, will now take up positions in operating departments, public‑sector organisations, and central agencies, a move that the government pitches as proof of its “high‑priority” focus on formal‑sector employment.
Prime Minister Modi used the occasion to underscore his own oversight of the recruitment engine, reminding viewers that such large‑scale job‑fairs are designed to “speed up the process of recruitment” and “create more opportunities for youth.”
As recruits waved their appointment letters in auditoriums from Srinagar to Trivandrum, PM Modi’s tele‑presence turned what might have been a routine administrative exercise into a highly choreographed, nationally telecast ceremony of state‑sponsored job‑giving.
Ahead of the event, PM Modi articulated the subtext in a Hindi‑language post on X, framing the Rozgar Mela as an extension of his personal promise to India’s younger generation. “Our commitment to the bright future and empowerment of our young colleagues across the country remains unwavering,” he wrote, adding that he would participate in the employment fair to hand over appointment letters for various government departments.
Government officials told reporters that so far nearly 12 lakh appointment letters have been issued through 18 Rozgar Melas since the scheme was launched, positioning the initiative as one of the largest continuous recruitment drives in the country’s recent history.
Officials say the chosen ministries reflect “multi‑sector” hiring—from security and policing to transportation, health, finance, and education—ensuring that the image of a Modi‑driven recruitment push resonates with a wide swathe of families and regional constituencies.
