Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to Khalid Saifi and Tasleem Ahmad
New Delhi, May 22 (H.S.): The Supreme Court of India has granted six months’ interim bail to Khalid Saifi and Tasleem Ahmad, who are accused of conspiring in the 2020 Delhi riots.
While granting interim bail to the two accused, the apex court also referred the bail pleas of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam to a larger bench for consideration.
The bench headed by Justice Aravind Kumar passed the order in light of observations made in a recent ruling by a bench led by Justice B V Nagarathna concerning Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had reserved its verdict on the bail pleas of Khalid Saifi and Tasleem Ahmad.
The bail plea of Khalid Saifi had earlier been rejected by the Delhi High Court on April 8, 2025. Saifi is the founder of United Against Hate.
The Special Cell had registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against several accused, including Umar Khalid, Ishrat Jahan, Khalid Saifi, Safoora Zargar, Gulfisha Fatima, Natasha Narwal, Devangana Kalita and Tahir Hussain.
At least 53 people were killed and many others injured in the February 2020 Delhi riots.
