Hyderabad, 21 May (H.S.): Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Thursday said the state government is working to address hardships faced by people due to policies implemented during the previous BRS government and ensure a dignified life for citizens.
Speaking at a Revenue, Housing and Forest Sadasu held in Sattupalli Assembly constituency of Khammam district, the minister said farmers and economically weaker sections had encountered difficulties, particularly due to issues arising from the Dharani land portal.
He said the government had replaced Dharani with Bhu Bharati with the objective of resolving land-related disputes and strengthening farmers’ control over their land.
Ponguleti said land and housing ownership were directly linked to dignity and security for poor families. He alleged that several eligible beneficiaries did not receive housing during the previous government despite announcements under the double-bedroom housing scheme.
Commenting on the state’s finances, the minister alleged that Telangana inherited financial liabilities but said the present government was continuing welfare and development programmes while managing fiscal commitments.
Referring to housing initiatives, he said the Congress government had revived the **Indira housing scheme**, sanctioning **4.5 lakh houses in the first phase** with an allocation of **₹22,500 crore**. He said **1.25 lakh houses have been completed**, while another **one lakh houses are expected to be ready by June**.
The minister said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would launch the second phase of Indiramma houses on **June 2**.
Ponguleti also directed revenue and forest officials to resolve pending disputes concerning forest and revenue lands in villages located along the border areas of Sattupalli Assembly constituency, including Rudrakshapalli, Kokapadu, Talapenta, Ramachandrapuram and Venkatagiri.
He instructed officials to complete survey and demarcation of forest boundaries before the onset of monsoon and said pattas would be granted to families cultivating land for generations.
The minister further directed forest authorities not to obstruct farmers who have obtained rights under the Forest Rights Act from drilling borewells for agricultural purposes.
Sattupalli MLA Matta Ragamayee and residents from Penuballi, Vemsoor and Sattupalli mandals attended the programme.
