Senior ACS Officer Held Red-Handed in ₹45,000 Bribery Case in Guwahati
Guwahati, 21 May (HS): In a major anti-corruption operation in Guwahati, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DIR VAC) arrested a senior Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer for allegedly accepting a bribe linked to a land-related matter.

Guwahati, 21 May (HS): In a major anti-corruption operation in Guwahati, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DIR VAC) arrested a senior Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer for allegedly accepting a bribe linked to a land-related matter.

The arrested official has been identified as Lachit Kumar Das, Additional Director of the Directorate of Land Records and Surveys. Officials said he was caught red-handed while allegedly receiving ₹45,000 from a complainant during a trap operation conducted by the Vigilance team.

According to sources, the officer had allegedly demanded the money in connection with processing land transaction-related work. Acting on a complaint, anti-corruption officials laid a trap and apprehended him while he was accepting the bribe amount.

Following the arrest, Vigilance officials launched extensive search operations at locations associated with the accused officer. Raids were carried out at his office in Rupnagar as part of the ongoing investigation.

Searches were also conducted at his residence in Beltola and at a flat located in Queen Garden Apartment, G-A Block. Investigators are reportedly examining documents and other materials recovered during the raids.

Lachit Kumar Das had earlier served as Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur district and also held the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner in Hojai.

Officials stated that the investigation is continuing and further revelations are likely as the probe progresses.----------
