
Kolkata, 02 May (H.S.): More than 86 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm in repolling held across 15 booths in two Assembly constituencies of South 24 Parganas district on Saturday, an official said.
Repolling was conducted in 11 polling stations of Magrahat Paschim Assembly constituency and four in Diamond Harbour, following directions from the Election Commission of India after complaints of electoral malpractices.
Voting began at 7 am and was scheduled to continue till 6 pm, the official added.
Meanwhile, hundreds of villagers staged a protest in Falta, demanding security ahead of the counting of votes. The protesters alleged that they were receiving life threats from Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in the area.
Security arrangements were tightened in the repolling booths to ensure peaceful voting, officials said.
