Nagpur, 02 May

(HS): About 54 lakh women were rendered ineligible for benefits under the ‘Mukhyamantryachi

Ladki Bahin’ scheme of the Maharashtra Government. Out of those were removed

from the beneficiaries list, either were not eligible, but derived benefits, or

could not complete the KYC by the last date of April 30.

Launched about

two years ago with an aim to financial support women with the annual income

below Rs 2.50 lakh, found anomalies later. The benefits were extended without

proper verification of documents submitted by the applicants under the scheme.

Later many women who are not eligible were found to have derived benefits from

the scheme.

When the state

government announced action against ineligible applicants getting benefits,

many women voluntarily withdrew their applications. The applicants were given

opportunity to correct their applications or submit proper documents through

e-KYC. The last dates were extended three times for completing the procedure,

the last date being April 30.

With the expiry

of the last date for e-KYC, 1.89 crore women were found eligible for the financial

support of Rs 1,500 per month. They will continue to get the benefits

henceforth.
