Chandigarh, 02 May (H.S.): Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government, alleging that the registration of FIRs against BJP leaders was an attempt to divert public attention from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s alleged conduct in the Punjab Assembly.

Jakhar claimed that the BJP would not be intimidated by what he termed as politically motivated cases. He alleged that the state government was trying to suppress dissent and target leaders who recently joined the BJP. According to him, those who were once praised by AAP leaders are now being subjected to legal action after switching political sides.

He described this as a clear example of “double standards” and said the issue would be raised before Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. Jakhar stated that the BJP would demand accountability from the state government over what he called misuse of power.

The BJP leader also alleged that the bigger concern was Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann allegedly giving a “free hand” to his own MLAs to indulge in corruption while targeting opposition leaders. He claimed that despite corruption allegations against an AAP MLA, the state government had extended police protection to him, even though he had previously been jailed.

Questioning the sudden shift in AAP’s approach toward former party members, Jakhar said leaders who were once considered loyal are now being portrayed negatively after leaving the party. He alleged that this was being done to pressure remaining legislators and prevent further defections from the ruling party.

Jakhar further accused the Chief Minister of protecting his own position by avoiding strict action against his party MLAs while pursuing political opponents aggressively.

Reiterating that the BJP stands firmly with its leaders, Jakhar said the party would strongly oppose any form of political vendetta. He also warned government officials against exceeding legal boundaries while carrying out such actions.

He added that the people of Punjab are closely watching the political developments in the state and would give their verdict in the 2027 Assembly elections. Jakhar asserted that public perception toward BJP is changing and that the party is emerging as a strong alternative leadership option in Punjab.
