
Kanker, 02 May (H.S.): An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on Saturday in a forest near the village of Adnar in the jurisdiction of Chotbeathiya police station, located along the border area of Kanker and Narayanpur districts in Chhattisgarh, during a demining and area domination operation. Four security personnel were martyred in the blast. Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sundararaj P. has confirmed the incident.
During the operation, an IED accidentally exploded, catching four personnel of the Kanker District Reserve Guard (DRG) in its blast. Inspector Sukhram Watti, constable Krishna Korma, and constable Sanjay Ghadpale sustained severe injuries and succumbed to their wounds at the spot. The Bastar Fighter’s constable Paramanand Korram, who was critically injured, was evacuated to Raipur for advanced treatment, where he later died during medical care.
Regarding this incident, Bastar Range IGP Sundararaj Patinglam stated that, based on information provided by surrendered Maoist cadres over the past several months and other inputs, police and security forces have been recovering and defusing hundreds of IEDs previously planted and concealed by Maoists across the Bastar Range. But in today’s unfortunate incident, while a Kanker district police team was attempting to defuse an IED, the device detonated unexpectedly, resulting in the martyrdom of four police personnel.
