Guwahati, 02 May (HS): Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday expressed scepticism over the Assam Assembly election exit polls, stating that such projections have historically proven unreliable.

Addressing reporters in Guwahati, Baghel informed that a meeting of Congress candidates and opposition party leaders was underway in the presence of DK Shivakumar along with the state leadership, as part of preparations ahead of the vote counting scheduled for May 4.

Baghel said the gathering aimed to review the party’s preparedness and coordinate efforts before the results are declared. “Today, we are meeting our candidates along with DK Shivakumar and the state leadership here,” he noted.

Reacting to exit poll predictions that indicate an advantage for the BJP-led NDA in Assam, the Congress leader dismissed them as repetitive and inaccurate. He remarked that such surveys often replicate earlier trends and “never turn out to be correct.”

Commenting on the repolling reported in parts of West Bengal, Baghel asserted that constant vigilance by opposition parties helped prevent any alleged irregularities during the electoral process.

Counting of votes for Assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is scheduled to take place on May 4.-----------
