Lucknow,
02 May (HS): The chief principal census officer of Uttar Pradesh said on
Saturday that caste enumeration will take place alongside census activities. Sheetal
Verma, the state's director of census operations, spoke to media in Lucknow. She
stated, We reach out to every ordinary citizen and count them. We count
households and acquire information about their assets. When we go on to Phase
2, which is anticipated for February 2027, we will concentrate on a broad
spectrum of unique qualities and personal features. For example, we gather
information on fertility, literacy levels, and the nature of one's work. This
time, a caste enumeration will also be performed. A caste-based census will
actually be conducted.
She
also stated that the next census will be the eighth after Independence and the
sixteenth in the series, which began in 1872. In terms of population, if you
normally live in a specific place, you are considered part of that area's
population and will be counted. Unless you have diplomatic immunity or are a
citizen of another nation, you will be considered as part of the population,
according to Verma, who added that territory refers to the physical region
whose boundaries are essentially fixed for the sake of this operation. As of
December 31, 2025, all revenue and administrative entities across the entirety
of India have been frozen, and no new tehsil will be created. There would be no new state, revenue village,
or administrative block, she stated.
The
justification for this action is that once the population has been enumerated,
the resulting statistics will be released revenue-village and ward-wise,
according to the officer. She pointed out that the census is the only really
global procedure of its sort. Verma stated that we go out to each and every
citizen and person to count them. On March 30, India's Registrar General and
Census Commissioner, Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, encouraged citizens to supply
correct information to census enumerators, promising them that individual data
would be kept secret and could not be used as evidence or to get any advantage
under any scheme.
