New Delhi, May 19 (H.S.): Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday called for deeper collaboration between industry and the government to accelerate India’s journey toward “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India). He also urged stakeholders to convert global uncertainties into opportunities for reforms and stronger economic growth.

Addressing the “India Business Reform Summit” organised by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) in New Delhi, Goyal emphasized the need to further improve the ease of doing business, enhance India’s competitiveness, and fast-track the country’s progress toward the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The minister said that the current global environment and geopolitical uncertainties should be viewed as an opportunity for India to strengthen its business processes, accelerate reforms, improve resilience, and reinforce supply chains.

He stressed that closer cooperation between industry and the government would play a crucial role in improving India’s global competitiveness and achieving the vision of a developed nation by 2047.

Urging businesses to remain cautious but avoid panic, Goyal said that India had successfully overcome unexpected challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted the importance of adopting smarter and more efficient business practices, including reducing waste, improving productivity, and embracing energy-efficient measures.

Goyal noted that nearly 1,800 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are currently operating in India. According to him, these GCCs are generating around two million direct jobs and nearly 10 million indirect employment opportunities.

He added that international companies are increasingly recognising India as a trusted partner with a young and talented workforce capable of supporting global operations.

The minister also urged exporters to proactively leverage upcoming Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) by exploring new markets, conducting sampling and trial orders, and strengthening international engagement even before such agreements formally come into effect.
