14 May (HS): Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah arrived in Ghaziabad
this morning. He attended the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)
'President's Colour' investiture ceremony as the chief guest. He expressed
confidence that the NDRF will be able to work with even greater strength in the
future to protect the country's people from any kind of disaster. Shah said
that seeing NDRF personnel makes people feel safe.
He
said that under the Prime Minister's leadership, not only has work been done
since 2014 to revamp disaster and relief operations, but we are now in a
position to move towards zero casualties. He inaugurated six projects on the
occasion. Shah said that the completion of these projects will further
facilitate relief and rescue operations.

Minister Shah said that in the disaster we have anticipated, and the weather
department has forecast it, our goal should be to ensure the safety of life and
property, and complete security. He said that a lot of work has been done in
this direction. Many decisions have been made with this in mind. Awareness and
rescue apps have also been created. Through this, disaster prevention is
gradually becoming a part of the nation's culture.
He
said that the NDRF has set an example of excellent service by saving not only
citizens but also the mute animals living alongside them. The government's goal
is to minimize loss of life and property. The Home Ministry has prepared to
face serious challenges like heat waves. In the coming years, we will be
successful in minimizing the loss of life and property caused by these events.
He
said that the NDRF and the Home Ministry have done commendable work in training
over 8,500 of their own personnel, 10,000 Civil Defense personnel, and over
220,000 volunteers. Over 10,500 sailors have also been trained in two years.
Some Disaster Mitras are also present here today. The support of Disaster
Mitras will be useful in strengthening Disaster Management.
He
said that during its 20 years of service, the NDRF has achieved such a position
that every citizen of the country feels safe seeing the force. This force has
performed commendable work not only in the country but also abroad in
disasters, bringing glory to India. He praised the Meteorological Department
and the NDRF, saying that by planting more than 70 million trees, they have
played a vital role in preventing climate change and protecting the
environment. On this occasion, he took the salute of the parade. NDRF Director
General Piyush Kumar Anand welcomed the Union Home Minister and then the NDRF
DG inspected the parade for the Union Minister and the Chief Guest from an open
jeep.
