New Delhi, 01 May (H.S.): Ravi K has assumed charge as the 22nd Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), taking over from Dr. D.K. Sunil, who retired on April 30.
He brings more than 30 years of experience across manufacturing and electronics. Before this appointment, he served as Director (Operations) at HAL, where he led strategic planning and played a key role in helping the company achieve Maharatna status.
After taking charge, Ravi K said his vision is to transform HAL into a globally competitive aerospace and defence enterprise driven by innovation, artificial intelligence, operational excellence and people-centric values. He has also held key roles such as Executive Director and General Manager of the LCA Tejas Division, as well as Executive Director (Corporate Planning).
He has been credited with securing major contracts for HAL, including the agreement with the Indian Air Force for the supply of 180 LCA Tejas aircraft, the order for 156 LCH Prachand helicopters for the Indian Army and Air Force, and the operationalisation of the LCA Tejas fleet in the Air Force.
According to HAL, he improved fleet service through several customer-focused initiatives, created smoother data communication with Air Force bases, and established a single point of contact for timely customer support. He also played an important role in strengthening indigenous capabilities by expanding manufacturing capacity in Nashik to accelerate the LCA Tejas programme.
A mechanical engineering graduate from Malnad College of Engineering, Karnataka, Ravi K is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and IAS, Toulouse, France. He is also a nominated director on the board of Multi-Role Transport Aircraft Limited.
He also played a major role in building a strong manufacturing ecosystem by outsourcing large fuselage assemblies with private-sector partners. This strategy is now delivering results through steady deliveries. His efforts have helped HAL expand further into civil manufacturing and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), creating new revenue streams and increasing the company’s presence in the aviation market.
