New Delhi, 09 April (H.S.):
To sharpen its response to potential terrorist attacks, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) conducted its annual anti-hijacking drill at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in the national capital on Thursday. Deputy Inspector General Babu Ram led the exercise, attended by senior officials, simulating a high-intensity hijack scenario at one of India's busiest aviation gateways.
In a post on X, CISF highlighted the broad participation from the National Security Guard (NSG), Delhi Police, Intelligence Bureau (IB), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), airport firefighting units, medical teams, and airline operators. CISF's Quick Reaction Teams, bomb disposal squads, and K9 units executed swift, synchronized maneuvers, demonstrating precision in threat neutralization.
These drills meticulously evaluate inter-agency coordination and operational readiness—gauging security forces' reaction speed in emergencies, medical teams' deployment efficiency, and the supportive roles of airport ecosystem players.
Aligned with ICAO standards and India's aviation security framework, such simulations at IGI—handling over 1,200 daily flights—fortify defenses against evolving threats, building on lessons from historical incidents like the 1999 Kandahar hijacking.
