Guwahati/Silchar, 08 April (H.S.):

Amid escalating election tensions in Assam, the RSS's North and South Assam units have lodged police complaints against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over purported inflammatory statements.

FIRs at Multiple Stations

Separate FIRs were filed at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati and Silchar Police Station, alleging Kharge made objectionable comments hurting religious sentiments and targeting political organisations during an election rally at Nilambazar in South Karimaganj Assembly constituency, Sribhumi district.

The complaints claim Kharge likened RSS and BJP ideologies to poisonous snakes, using an analogy that if danger arises, it must be eliminated first—deemed provocative and inflammatory by RSS.

Potential Legal Violations

BJP and RSS assert such rhetoric could disrupt social harmony and communal balance during elections, fostering enmity and tension among workers and supporters. The FIR invokes provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, for corrupt electoral practices, alongside charges of breaching public peace and inciting inter-community strife.

RSS demands swift, impartial action, stressing freedom of expression must not undermine social harmony on electoral platforms.

No official response has emerged from Congress or Kharge yet. Authorities have acknowledged the complaints and initiated probes.
