
Barabanki, 8 April (HS): Senior Congress
leader and former Union Minister Mohsina Kidwai passed away in Delhi at the age
of 93. News of her death has sent shockwaves across the state, including
Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. A longtime political activist, Mohsina Kidwai held
several important portfolios in the central and state governments and established
herself as a prominent leader of the Congress Party. Leaders from the Congress
and other political parties, as well as family and fans, have expressed deep
grief over her passing. Mohsina Kidwai's funeral procession will depart from
her residence in Sector 40, Noida, at 3 p.m. She will be buried at the
Nizamuddin cemetery in Delhi at 5 p.m. Preparations are underway. As a Union
Minister in the governments of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, Kidwai served in
ministries such as health, urban development, tourism, and civil aviation.
Born
on January 1, 1932, in Masauli, Barabanki, Mohsina Kidwai was twice elected to
the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh. She was elected MP from Meerut in the 1978
by-election, in 1980, and in 1984. She subsequently served as a member of the
Rajya Sabha from 2004 to 2010 and from 2010 to 2016. Mohsina Kidwai, a close
associate of the Gandhi family, served as a minister in the central government
and chairperson of the Haj Committee. She also served as Congress General
Secretary. She was a member of the Congress Working Committee and the Congress
Party's Central Election Committee. She remained active in public life for a
long time.
