Bongaigaon (Assam), 08 April (HS): A devastating fire broke out late Tuesday night in the Ghilaguri area of Abhayapuri, reducing at least 14 commercial establishments at Threeniali Market to ashes.
According to reports on Wednesday, the fire started around 1 am and rapidly engulfed nearby shops. The situation turned more severe when two LPG cylinders kept inside a hotel exploded, intensifying the blaze and causing it to spread quickly across the market area.
The fire destroyed a range of establishments, including grocery stores, tea stalls, an online café, clothing and footwear shops, a salon, a general store, a Pooja Goods outlet and a Xerox centre. The total property loss is estimated to be between ₹80 lakh and ₹90 lakh.
Upon receiving information, the Abhayapuri fire brigade rushed to the spot and, after strenuous efforts, managed to bring the fire under control.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, preliminary reports suggest a possible electrical short circuit. Police and local administration have initiated a detailed investigation into the incident.-----------
