Guwahati, 07 April (HS): Mild earthquake tremors were felt across parts of Assam on Tuesday afternoon, causing brief panic among residents who rushed out of their homes.

According to available information, the tremor occurred at 2:18:31 PM and measured 4.8 on the Richter scale. Despite the noticeable shaking, no reports of casualties or property damage have been received so far.

Officials from the National Center for Seismology stated that the epicentre of the earthquake was located in Hailakandi district of Assam at a depth of 5 kilometres beneath the ground. The coordinates of the epicentre were recorded at 24.823 degrees north latitude and 92.634 degrees east longitude.

The sudden tremor led to panic among people, with many stepping out as a precaution, although the situation remained under control.
