Thiruvananthapuram,30 April (H.S.): A 62-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his son following a violent domestic altercation at Amburi near Thiruvananthapuram late on Wednesday night. The victim, Thomas Abraham, a resident of Kuruvikonam, succumbed to head injuries after being attacked during a family dispute.

The accused, identified as Shanu Thomas, has been taken into custody by the Vellarada police. The incident occurred around 11 p.m., reportedly following a series of events linked to Shanu’s wedding anniversary celebrations earlier in the day.

According to police sources, a gathering involving alcohol consumption had taken place as part of the anniversary celebrations. Later in the night, a heated argument broke out between Shanu and his wife. As the situation escalated, family members intervened in an attempt to defuse tensions.

During the scuffle, Shanu allegedly attacked his uncle, Varghese, with a knife, leaving him injured. Varghese is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Hearing the commotion, Thomas Abraham rushed to the scene and tried to restrain his son.

However, in a fit of rage, Shanu reportedly picked up a chair and struck his father on the head, causing him to collapse. Family members immediately rushed Thomas Abraham to a nearby private hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

The body has since been shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital at Kaarakonam for post-mortem examination.

Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that alcohol and escalating domestic tensions may have contributed to the tragic turn of events.
