Kolkata, 03 April (H.S.): West Bengal is witnessing a steady rise in temperatures, with both day and night temperatures remaining above normal in several parts of the state, including Kolkata. According to Alipore Meteorological Department, the temperature is expected to increase further in the coming days, leading to intensified heat and discomfort due to dry weather conditions.

In Kolkata and across South Bengal, dry weather is expected to persist until Saturday. Districts including Howrah, South 24 Parganas, West Medinipur, West Bardhaman, Purulia, Bankura, and Birbhum have been issued warnings for hot and uncomfortable conditions. The maximum temperature in Kolkata is likely to reach around 37°C by Saturday, while western districts may see temperatures soaring up to 40°C.

On Friday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 26.2°C, while Thursday’s maximum temperature stood at 35°C. No rainfall is expected over the next two days.

However, a change in weather is likely from Sunday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rain are expected between Sunday and Tuesday across various parts of the state. On Sunday, districts such as Jhargram, West Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, and West Bardhaman may experience Kalbaisakhi (nor’wester storms). By Monday, all districts of South Bengal are likely to witness thunderstorms and rainfall.

In North Bengal, rainfall activity will decrease on Friday and Saturday, while temperatures are expected to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. However, weather conditions are likely to change again from Sunday to Wednesday, with increasing chances of thunderstorms and rain. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across all districts of North Bengal on Monday.

Overall, while heatwave-like conditions are expected to persist in the short term, relief in the form of thunderstorms and rain is likely towards the end of the weekend.
