Kolkata, 26 April (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Election Commission and the police during a public rally at Camac Street in Kolkata.

Addressing the gathering, Banerjee said that while she respects the institution of the Election Commission, irregularities in the electoral process cannot be ignored. She alleged attempts to capture EVMs and claimed that in some areas, power cuts were being deliberately carried out to facilitate unlawful activities. She urged people to remain vigilant and not fall prey to any such conspiracies.

Taking aim at the police, the Chief Minister alleged that they were acting at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She claimed that outsiders were being brought into the state, but no action was being taken by the police, while her party workers were being targeted instead. Banerjee asserted that the situation would change after May 4 and that the police should work in the interest of the people.

She also appealed directly to police personnel to serve the public rather than any political party, assuring them of respect and support.

Concluding her speech, Banerjee thanked the people for attending the rally and appealed to them to vote in favour of the Trinamool Congress, urging them to stay on the path of truth and integrity.
