Kolkata, 26 April (H.S.): Amid the ongoing election atmosphere in West Bengal, panic spread once again in the Bhangar area following the recovery of a large number of crude bombs. According to reports, around 100 live bombs were recovered on Sunday from a mango orchard in the Chele Goyalia area under Kashipur Police Station. The incident has triggered fear and concern among local residents.
The police said the recovery was made during a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs. A suspicious bag was found in a garden behind a house, and upon inspection, it was discovered to contain a large number of fresh explosives. The area was immediately cordoned off, and a bomb disposal squad was called in to defuse the devices safely.
The incident has sparked a political controversy. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) accused workers of the Indian Secular Front (ISF) of stockpiling bombs to create unrest ahead of the elections. In response, the ISF denied the allegations and countered that the ruling party was attempting to create an atmosphere of fear and then shift the blame onto others.
Authorities stated that the situation is currently under control, with intensified police patrolling in the area. An investigation has been launched to determine the source of the explosives and identify those responsible.
Notably, just a day earlier, an accused in a bomb blast case in Bhangar was reportedly assaulted by locals upon returning to the village and was later arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The back-to-back incidents have further escalated tensions in the region ahead of the elections.
