Bareilly,
April 24 (HS): Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya chaired
a Jan Aakrosh (public outcry) event against women's rights at Invertis
University in the city on Friday. The event delivered a clear message from the
government regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Act and reiterated its commitment
to empowering women. A large number of women and BJP workers attended the
conference.
In
his address, the Deputy Chief Minister said that this is not just an event, but
a symbol of the fight for women's dignity and rights. He explained that an
attempt was made to provide 33 percent reservation for women by convening a
special session of Parliament on April 16, 17, and 18, but this was not
possible due to opposition hostility. He said that if the opposition had
cooperated, this historic bill could have been passed. Citing the example of
reservations for women in panchayats and municipal bodies, Maurya said its
positive impact is clearly visible. He added that today, women are leading as
district panchayat presidents in Bareilly, a result of the opportunities available
to women. He emphasized that women excel in every field; the only need is to
provide them with opportunities.
Referring
to Narendra Modi's pledge, he said the Prime Minister has clearly stated,
I have neither lost heart nor my spirit has broken. I will ensure 33
percent reservation for women. Maurya said the BJP is committed to
fulfilling this pledge, while the opposition has ridiculed the issue. He said
the public will answer those who insult half the population. In his speech,
Maurya also presented examples of women's power in Indian tradition. He said
that women's power is one that brings back the life of their husbands from
Yamraj in the form of Sati, demonstrates bravery in the form of Rani Lakshmi
Bai, and shows the path of education to society in the form of Savitribai
Phule. He said that the BJP government is continuously working to advance
women.
The
Deputy Chief Minister, citing central and state government schemes, said that
millions of women have benefited from these schemes. He explained that bank
accounts have been opened for 400 million women, toilets have been built in 100
million homes, and housing has been provided to 70 million poor families, most
of whom are women. Furthermore, women are being empowered financially through
the Ayushman Bharat scheme, millions of gas connections under the Ujjwala
scheme, and the Lakhpati Didi scheme. He said the government's goal
is to make millions of women self-reliant.
Referring
to the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, he said it's not just a
slogan, but a strong foundation for women's empowerment. He added that the
country's president and state governor are women, which indicates that women
are being given leadership opportunities. Attacking the opposition, Maurya said
the public will respond to the protests of 2026 in 2027.
At
the event, Forest and Environment Minister Dr. Arun Kumar said that the BJP was
serious about providing 33 percent reservation to women, but this was not
possible due to the opposition. He said that this anger of women should now
reach the public.
Mayor
Dr. Umesh Gautam said that the opposition has crushed the dreams of women,
while the BJP is working to advance them. District Panchayat President Rashmi
Patel said that the BJP's identity is women's respect and upliftment, but the
opposition has betrayed women.
MP
Chhatrapal Gangwar said that when it came to respecting women, the opposition
failed to support him. He promised to spread this message to every village and
every home. BJP regional president Digvijay Singh Shakya said that women play a
crucial role in achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047, and their
political empowerment is essential for this.
