Golaghat (Assam), 23 April (HS): In a major crackdown, police seized a large consignment of illegal Arunachali liquor worth around ₹15 lakh in Merapani, a border area in Assam’s Golaghat district.

The officials informed on Thursday that the liquor was being clandestinely transported from Tezpur to Nagaland and was cleverly concealed inside a truck bearing registration number AS01 CC 2143. According to the police, the consignment was hidden among cement sacks loaded from Balipara in Tezpur.

Acting on specific inputs, Merapani Police intercepted the truck and recovered the illegal liquor. The driver, identified as Lalit Singh from Manipur and the handyman, Prem Kumar, were arrested on the spot.

Police officials stated that the seized consignment included liquor of various brands. Preliminary estimates suggest the market value of the seized items exceeds ₹15 lakh. Further investigation is underway to ascertain if more individuals are involved in the smuggling operation.----------
