Kamrup (Assam), 22 April (HS): In a tragic incident, a young man was swept away by the strong currents of the Brahmaputra River while attempting to rescue his ailing mother in Assam’s Sualkuchi on Wednesday.

The youth, identified as Himanshu Malakar, reportedly jumped into the river to save his mother, who was said to be suffering from mental illness and had entered the water. While he managed to bring her to safety, Malakar himself was carried away by the powerful current.

Despite immediate efforts by the river police to trace him, he remained missing at the time of filing this report. A search operation is underway to locate the youth.------------
