
Bhubaneswar, 21 April (H.S.): The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on Tuesday inaugurated multiple development projects in Rourkela, Odisha, including a Planetarium and Science Centre and the Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path. Later in the day, she also inaugurated a Tribal Museum and an Integrated Command and Control Centre.
Addressing a public gathering, the President highlighted the unique natural beauty, rich folk traditions, and cultural heritage of Sundargarh. She noted that its dense forests, hills, waterfalls, and rivers contribute to its distinctive charm, while its art and culture have significantly enriched Odisha’s cultural landscape. She also described Sundargarh as a land known for its brave individuals and sporting talent.
The President observed that people from across India reside in Rourkela for employment and livelihood, making it a cosmopolitan hub. She said the city has played a pioneering role in promoting Odisha’s art, literature, tribal traditions, and sports.
Emphasizing inclusive growth, the President said that national development is achievable only when all sections of society progress together. She noted that both Central and State governments are implementing various welfare schemes for tribal communities, accelerating development in tribal-dominated districts like Sundargarh and focusing on their economic upliftment.
She urged citizens to actively participate in nation-building and encouraged them to support one another in moving forward. Stressing the importance of social responsibility, she called on people to work towards uplifting the underprivileged.
The President expressed confidence that India is steadily progressing towards becoming a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, marking 100 years of independence. She also noted that Odisha will complete 100 years of its formation in 2036. Achieving the vision of a developed Odisha and a developed India, she said, requires inclusive, all-round development and the collective efforts of farmers, workers, tribal communities, marginalized groups, intellectuals, youth, and citizens across both rural and urban areas.
