Guwahati, 19 April (HS): The Assam government is set to begin the census process across the state from August 2, 2026, with large-scale preparations already underway. According to official sources, preliminary activities will commence on the scheduled date, followed by door-to-door data collection starting August 17.
For the smooth execution of the exercise, around 85,000 enumerators have been appointed. These officials will undergo training from June to ensure accuracy and uniformity in data collection. The entire census process is expected to continue until September 15, 2026.
The administration has initiated extensive groundwork to ensure the successful completion of the census. As per the 2011 census, Assam’s total population stood at approximately 3.29 crore, with Muslims accounting for around 34% of the population at that time.
Meanwhile, specific guidelines have been issued regarding the materials to be used during the enumeration process. Enumerators have been instructed to use blue or black ink ballpoint pens to maintain consistency in recording data. Authorities have also urged citizens to extend full cooperation during the census to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection.------------
