New York/Tehran, 16 April (H.S.):
The United Nations has announced the release of $12 million (approximately ₹100 crore) in emergency humanitarian aid for Iran, ravaged by conflict. This assistance comes in response to the deteriorating conditions in the country and the pressing needs of its civilians.
UN relief chief Tom Fletcher stated that the 40-day conflict has resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians, alongside severe damage to critical infrastructure. Essential services such as healthcare, water supply, and electricity have been profoundly disrupted.
He emphasized that the funding will bolster relief efforts at the grassroots level through various partner organizations. Priority will be given to delivering food, medical aid, clean water, and other vital services to those affected.
According to the United Nations, a large number of people have been displaced amid the current situation, requiring immediate support. This financial aid could prove lifesaving in these circumstances.
Humanitarian agencies warn that the ongoing conflict is complicating conditions relentlessly, and without a swift, lasting resolution, the crisis risks deepening further
