April 14 (HS): Late Monday evening, a prisoner detained in the district jail in
Agra, Uttar Pradesh, committed suicide by hanging himself in the district
jail's hospital. Hari Parvat police, who arrived after receiving the
information, took action by sending the body for post-mortem. Action has been
taken against the jail warden for negligence in this case.
Mustakim
(37) alias Matoor, son of Sharif alias Shafruddin, resident of Wazirpura,
Hariparvat police station, a convicted/undertrial prisoner lodged in the
district jail under Hariparvat police station area of Agra district,
committed suicide by hanging himself from the fan after locking the pharmacist
room from inside the district jail premises and making a noose from the edge of
a blanket. The district jail administration informed the local police about the
incident. On receiving the above information, Hariparvat police station force
including ACP reached the spot and the lock of the pharmacist room locked from
inside was broken while videography was being done in the presence of the
forensic (FSL) team.
After
the FSL and local police collected evidence from the scene, the body of the
deceased prisoner, Mustaqeem, was sent for post-mortem examination. Prima
facie, action has been recommended against jail warden Vishvadeep Chauhan for
negligence.
Hari
Parvat police station in-charge Neeraj Sharma stated on Tuesday that a total of
seven cases were registered against the deceased prisoner, Mustakeem alias
Matoor. He had been convicted in two of these cases. The other cases are
pending in court. He had been a convicted prisoner in the district jail since
July 9, 2024. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further
legal proceedings are underway.
