UP Govt hikes minimum wages post unrest

Noida,

April 14 (HS): Following the turmoil in Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government

raised minimum pay across all worker categories, with new rates taking effect

retrospectively on April 1, authorities announced on Tuesday. Medha Roopam,

Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate, stated that the high-powered committee

approved the pay rise. She went on to say that CM UP approved the decision late

last night.

According

to an official release, unskilled workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad

would henceforth be paid Rs 13,690 per month, up from Rs 11,313, while

semi-skilled workers will be paid Rs 15,059 and skilled workers Rs 16,868. Other

municipal corporation regions' monthly salaries have been changed to Rs 13,006

for unskilled workers, Rs 14,306 for semi-skilled workers, and Rs 16,025 for

skilled workers.

In

the other districts, unskilled workers would be paid Rs 12,356 per month,

semi-skilled workers Rs 13,591, and skilled workers Rs 15,224. The decision was

made after talks with employers' and labor organizations. The administration

stated that recommendations and concerns were reviewed to guarantee a

balanced and practical conclusion.

The

action comes amid widespread demonstrations by industrial workers in Noida on

Monday, when thousands sought greater salaries and improved working conditions. The

demonstrations became violent in some sections of the district, causing the

government to form a committee to address the issue and negotiate with workers

and companies.
