Bhubaneswar, 14 April (H.S.): Odisha is witnessing vibrant celebrations today as people across the state mark the auspicious occasion of Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti along with the Odia New Year, one of the most significant cultural festivals in the region.

Households are immersed in festive preparations, with the traditional drink pana being prepared and shared among family members and communities. A key ritual of the day includes offering pana at the base of the sacred Tulsi plant, symbolizing the deep spiritual essence associated with the festival.

From rural villages to urban centers, the festival is being celebrated with great enthusiasm, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Odisha. The Odia New Year signifies not only a cultural observance but also embodies themes of renewal, peace, and harmony. Marking the beginning of the new Odia Panchang (almanac), several cultural programmes and special events have been organized across the state.
