Murmu will be the chief guest for the second convocation of the All India

Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on April 15.

Nagpur has set new benchmarks in the field of healthcare, teaching and research

in just 6 years. The institute, which started from a temporary campus in 2018,

shifted to a permanent campus in 2019. AIIMS was inaugurated by Prime Minister

Narendra Modi in December 2022.

AIIMS currently has 940 beds including 110 ICU beds.

About 3500 to 4000 patients are given outpatient care every day, while 40 to 50

major surgeries are performed. More than 2.6 million outpatients and 1.12

million inpatients have been treated so far, and more than 43,000 major

surgeries have been successfully performed. The institute has also made notable

achievements in the field of organ transplantation. So far, 57 kidney, 14 bone

marrow, and 29 corneal transplants have been successfully performed. It has

received the 'Emerging Best Governing Body' award from the National Institute

of Organ and Tissue Transplantation for its work. It has also been the only

institution to receive full accreditation from the National Board of

Accreditation. Nagpur AIIMS has 47 academic departments functioning and 125

students are admitted for undergraduate courses every year. In addition, 31

postgraduate branches and 16 ultra-specialty courses are available. Nursing,

paramedical and revision courses are also offered at the institute. More than

994 papers have been published so far in the field of research and more than

800 projects are underway.

The Institute's Biochemistry and Microbiology

laboratories have received national accreditation. Several state-of-the-art

facilities were commissioned in 2025-2026 or so. Central India's first

government-run nucleic acid testing laboratory and blood radiation system was

launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In addition, initiatives such as

Assisted Reproductive Technology Service, Centre for Health and Transgender

Services, Diabetic Foot Screening Centre, and De-addiction Outpatient

Department have been launched. Facilities such as robot-assisted knee implants,

mobile apps, and doctor's appointments provide a more convenient service to

patients. Advanced radiation, brachytherapy, and PET scans are available for

cancer treatment, and more than 2,700 angioplasties have been performed to date

in cardiac treatment. Overall, AIIMS Nagpur has consolidated its position among

the premier medical institutions of the country in providing comprehensive

healthcare in a short span of time.
