New Delhi, June 27 (HS): A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck Afghanistan on Saturday evening, sending tremors across Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir and several other parts of northern India, officials said.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 7:04 p.m. IST with its epicentre in Afghanistan at a depth of 215 kilometres.

Mild to moderate tremors were reported from Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar and Poonch, and parts of northern India. There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage in India.

Reports from Afghanistan said strong shaking was felt in Kabul and several other provinces. Tremors were also experienced in neighbouring Pakistan.

Authorities in the affected regions are monitoring the situation. Details regarding casualties or damage in Afghanistan were not immediately available.

The NCS said the earthquake measured 6.2 on the Richter scale and occurred at latitude 36.442°N and longitude 70.672°E.
