Bankura, 12 April (H.S.): Addressing an election rally in Chhatna on Sunday, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that “Bengal cannot be captured by force.”
She alleged that the BJP is attempting to forcibly take control of the state but said such efforts would not succeed. Urging voters to be cautious, Banerjee appealed to people not to support those who did not stand by them during difficult times, particularly referring to the SIR phase.
Banerjee further claimed that the BJP aims to establish a one-party rule across the country. She also raised concerns over the proposed delimitation bill, alleging that it could be used to “divide Bengal into parts.” “I challenge that this bill will be brought to fragment Bengal. I do not know which state will be merged with which,” she said.
From the same platform, the Chief Minister also questioned the Prime Minister over past promises. Referring to the 2014 general elections, she asked, “Where is the ₹15 lakh that was promised to be deposited in every bank account? What happened to the promise of two crore jobs?”
In a sharp remark, Banerjee added, “If I am lying, you may punish me. But if what I am saying is true, then answers must be given.”
