Rain in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, 12 April (H.S.):Kerala is likely to experience partial relief from the ongoing daytime heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning on Sunday and Monday. The evening showers are expected to bring temporary respite, even as authorities caution residents to remain vigilant against lightning-related risks.

According to the IMD, lightning can be dangerous, and people are advised to take necessary precautions, especially during sudden weather changes in the evening hours. Despite the possibility of rain, high temperatures are expected to persist during the daytime, prompting the department to issue a heat warning valid until Tuesday.

Several districts are likely to witness above-normal temperatures. Kollam, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Kasaragod may record highs of up to 38°C. Meanwhile, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kannur are expected to see temperatures rising to around 37°C. In Pathanamthitta, the mercury could touch 36°C.

The IMD has noted that temperatures across the state are likely to remain 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages. Combined with high humidity levels, this could lead to hot and uncomfortable weather conditions, particularly in coastal and lowland areas. Hill regions, however, may experience relatively milder conditions.

Authorities have urged the public to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours, and remain alert during thunderstorms. With fluctuating weather patterns expected over the next few days, residents are advised to follow official updates and take appropriate safety measures.

The combination of heat and intermittent rainfall reflects the transitional weather phase currently affecting the state, signaling the gradual shift toward pre-monsoon conditions.
