Goreswar, 12 April (HS): A tense situation prevailed in No. 2 Roumari village under Goreswar PS after seven sadhus were allegedly attacked while collecting donations for Charak Puja.

According to reports, the incident triggered unrest in the village, with allegations that the attack was led by one Chan Mahamud Ali and his son Azim Ali. Soon after the assault, an angry group of locals resorted to arson, setting fire to the accused persons’ houses.

In the fire, two houses were completely gutted and a two-wheeler was also reduced to ashes.

Police teams from Tamulpur and Goreswar rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. Meanwhile, both accused are currently absconding, and further investigation is underway.----------
